Gumroad Fees Explained: What You Really Pay per Sale (2026)

Gumroad charges 10% + $0.50 on every direct sale, and card processing of 2.9% + $0.30 comes on top, so a $25 sale costs you $4.03 (16.1%). Sales that come through Gumroad's Discover marketplace cost a flat 30%. Pocketsflow charges 4.7% + $0.30 with processing and tax included, which is $1.48 on the same sale.

Every Gumroad fee in one table

Gumroad has no monthly fee. It takes its money per sale, and the number depends on where the buyer found you. These are Gumroad's own figures from its fees and payouts help pages, read November 3, 2026.

What Gumroad takes from a sale, price by price

The $0.50 and $0.30 fixed parts hurt most on cheap products. The chart adds Gumroad's platform fee and card processing for one direct sale to a US buyer at five prices, next to Pocketsflow's single 4.7% + $0.30. It is the same math as the Pocketsflow fee calculator.

Source: Gumroad help, "Gumroad's fees" (gumroad.com/help/article/66-gumroads-fees), 10% + $0.50 plus 2.9% + $0.30 processing, read November 3, 2026. Pocketsflow pricing (www.pocketsflow.com/pricing), 4.7% + $0.30. One direct card sale to a US buyer.

On a $5 sale, Gumroad's fees are $1.45, or 29.0% of the price; Pocketsflow's are $0.54. On a $100 sale, Gumroad takes $13.70 and Pocketsflow $5. Gumroad's share never drops below 12.9% of the price on a direct sale under its high-volume bar, because the percentages alone add up to that.

The Gumroad Discover fee: 30%

Gumroad Discover is its marketplace. When a new customer finds you there and buys, Gumroad keeps 30% of the sale, with processing included. On a $25 product that is $7.50 per sale. Discover sales stay at 30% even after you pass the $20,000 bar. The trade is fair when Discover brings buyers you would never reach yourself; it is a poor trade on buyers you sent there from your own audience. Pocketsflow has no marketplace and no 30% tier: every sale pays 4.7% + $0.30, wherever the buyer came from.

Gumroad's $20,000 high-volume discount

Once your paid sales in a calendar month reach $20,000, Gumroad charges 5% + $0.50 instead of 10% + $0.50 on the new direct sales that month. The counter resets on the 1st, and a refund can push you back under the bar. Card processing still applies. Take 1,000 sales of a $25 product in one month ($25,000): Gumroad's fees come to $3,775 with the discount applied after the bar, and Pocketsflow's to $1,475. Pocketsflow's Volume plans, for sellers over $50,000 a month, lower its platform fee to 1% or 0.5%.

Gumroad payout fees and timing

Gumroad pays out once your balance reaches $100, and on weekly, monthly and quarterly schedules each sale is held 7 days first. Where Gumroad pays through PayPal instead of a bank, it charges a 2% payout fee, and US creators can take an instant payout for 3%. Pocketsflow holds new sales in a pending balance for a short period that covers refunds and disputes, then pays them daily, weekly, monthly or when you ask, to your bank account or a crypto wallet, with a receipt for each payout.

Taxes, refunds and affiliates on Gumroad

  • Sales tax and VAT: Gumroad has been the merchant of record since January 1, 2025, so it collects and pays sales tax for you. Pocketsflow does the same as a merchant of record, so tax is not a reason to pick one over the other.
  • Refunds: Gumroad returns its own fee on a refunded sale but keeps the card processing part, because the processor does not give it back.
  • Affiliates: on an affiliate sale, Gumroad splits its fees between you and the affiliate in proportion to the commission. A 30% affiliate pays 30% of the fees.

How to see what Gumroad charged you

  1. Open Gumroad and go to Analytics, then Sales.
  2. Download the sales CSV. Gumroad lists the fees taken on every sale in it.
  3. For a payout, open the Payouts dashboard and download that payout's CSV report.
  4. Put your price and monthly sales into the fee calculator to see the same month on Pocketsflow, Payhip, Stan and Lemon Squeezy.

When Gumroad is still the better choice

Gumroad is worth its fees if Discover brings you real new buyers, or if you already sell more than $20,000 a month of high-priced products and like its simple setup. Pocketsflow costs less per sale below that bar and on cheap products, where Gumroad's $0.80 of fixed fees bites hardest. If you want to switch, Pocketsflow imports products, customers, purchase history and followers from Gumroad, and our team will move your Gumroad store for you, free, on any plan.
