The list grows by sign-ups minus unsubscribes, in whole readers. Paid readers are your paid share of it. After fees takes 4.7% + $0.30 off each monthly payment; email sending is not counted.

A model, not a forecast: steady sign-ups, unsubscribes and paid share. Yearly plans, sponsorships and sending costs are left out.

// the formulas

Readers into revenue.

The worked examples use the calculator's defaults: 5,000 readers, 500 sign-ups a month, 2% unsubscribes, 5% paying $8 a month.

  • Paid readers

    list × paid share

    5,000 readers with 5% on the paid edition is 250 paying readers, $2,000.00 a month at $8.

  • List growth

    list × (1 − unsubscribes) + sign-ups

    500 sign-ups a month at 2% unsubscribes takes 5,000 readers to 9,305 in a year, levelling off at 25,000.

  • After fees

    price − (4.7% + $0.30)

    Each $8 payment leaves $7.32 on Pocketsflow. The example's next 12 months bring in $32,599.13 after fees.

On Pocketsflow your newsletter sits next to your store: collect readers on your creator page and at checkout, and sell a paid edition as a subscription at 4.7% + $0.30 per payment. See newsletters or email pricing.

// faq

Common questions.

How much can a paid newsletter make?

Readers × the share who pay × the price. 5,000 readers, 5% paying $8 a month is $2,000.00 a month today; with 500 sign-ups a month it reaches about $3,720.00 a month in a year.

What share of readers pay for a newsletter?

Commonly 1% to 10% of a free list; 5% is a typical target for a newsletter with a clear paid benefit (extra issues, an archive, a community). Lower is normal while you build trust.

How should I price a paid newsletter?

Most paid newsletters charge $5 to $15 a month, often with a yearly plan at about two months free. At $10 instead of $8, the example earns $4,650.00 a month in a year instead of $3,720.00, if the same share pays.

Why does my list stop growing?

Because unsubscribes grow with the list while sign-ups stay about the same. It levels off at sign-ups / unsubscribe rate: 500 a month at 2% stops near 25,000.

What does Pocketsflow cost for a paid newsletter?

Paid editions use subscriptions, at 4.7% + $0.30 per payment with no monthly fee. Collecting up to 1,000 subscribers is free; sending starts at $15 a month.
