How to Set Up a Digital Product Checkout
To set up a digital product checkout, create the product, ask the buyer for an email and nothing else, offer the payment methods buyers use in their country, and add the right sales tax or VAT before they pay. On Pocketsflow every product gets that checkout automatically: you pick a template, share the link or embed it, and Pocketsflow handles the tax as the merchant of record.
What a digital product checkout needs
A checkout for a digital product has one job: turn a buyer who decided into a paid order, then deliver the file. A Pocketsflow checkout shows a product panel with the name, price and image, the buyer's email, the payment form, a discount code field when you run coupons, and your refund, terms and privacy links. After payment, Pocketsflow creates the order, emails the receipt and delivers the product.
How to set up a checkout on Pocketsflow, step by step
- Create a free Pocketsflow account and create the product: upload the file, set the price and write a short description. Pocketsflow creates its checkout at the same time.
- Open the Checkout step in the Pocketsflow product editor. Email is always collected; turn on first and last name only if you need them.
- Pick one of Pocketsflow's 13 checkout templates, such as Classic, Noir or Paper, then change the layout, light or dark theme, fonts, corners and the five-color palette to match your brand.
- Add a refund policy. Pocketsflow can show it on the checkout as a money-back guarantee line.
- Check the tax setting under Settings, Taxes. By default Pocketsflow calculates, collects and pays the sales tax and VAT on every sale.
- Turn on 3D Secure under Settings, Checkout if you want the extra card check.
- Buy the product once yourself, then share the checkout link or embed it on your site.
Keep the Pocketsflow checkout to one field
Every extra field costs sales. Pocketsflow asks for the buyer's email, because the receipt and the download link go there, and leaves the name fields off unless you turn them on. Card details live inside the secure payment form, so you never handle card data. Buyers see the payment methods they know: cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank debit and local methods such as iDEAL.
What the Pocketsflow fee is at each price
Pocketsflow charges 4.7% + $0.30 per sale on its standard plans as of October 2026, with card processing and tax handling included and no monthly fee. The fixed part weighs more on a cheap product, so the fee as a share of the price falls as the price rises.
| Point | Fee share |
|---|---|
| $5 | 10.8% |
| $9 | 8% |
| $19 | 6.3% |
| $49 | 5.3% |
| $99 | 5% |

On a $5 product the fee is $0.54, or 10.8% of the price. On a $49 product it is $2.60, or 5.3%. If most of your products cost under $10, a bundle or a higher price keeps more of each sale. Run your own numbers in the Pocketsflow fee calculator.
Share, embed or open a Pocketsflow checkout from code
- Link: share the hosted Pocketsflow checkout link in a bio, a post or an email, or put a product page in front of it.
- Embed: place the Pocketsflow checkout on your own site so buyers pay without leaving your page.
- API: open a checkout session from your backend with one call to Pocketsflow's checkout sessions endpoint.
- AI: ask Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor for a checkout link and Pocketsflow's
create_checkout_sessiontool opens one through the Pocketsflow MCP server.
Sell more from the same Pocketsflow checkout
Pocketsflow adds a few things that raise the order value without a longer form. Discount codes work on every plan. Buyers can send a one-time product as a gift with a short message. On the Pocketsflow Growth plan you can add an order bump, a small add-on the buyer ticks before paying, and send an abandoned checkout email an hour after a buyer typed their email and left.
Free products and subscriptions use the same Pocketsflow checkout
Pocketsflow uses one checkout for one-time products, free products and subscriptions. A free lead magnet, such as a checklist or a template, gets a one-field checkout that collects the email, so every download leaves you an email. A subscription gets the same checkout, with the same templates, fields and payment methods, so buyers see one familiar Pocketsflow checkout whatever they buy.
