When Polar's paid plans cost less
Polar sells three monthly plans that lower the rate per sale: Pro at $20 a month for 3.8% + 40¢, Growth at $100 for 3.6% + 35¢, and Scale at $400 for 3.4% + 30¢. The 1.5% for non-US cards still applies. With $49 sales to US buyers, Polar Pro costs less than Pocketsflow once sales pass about $2,891 a month. Below that, Pocketsflow costs less. When every buyer pays with a non-US card, Polar Pro never costs less than Pocketsflow, because of the 1.5% surcharge. Pocketsflow's Volume plans, for sellers over $50,000 a month, lower its platform fee to 1% or 0.5%. The fee calculator runs the numbers for your own price.

Polar is built for developers. Its docs cover usage-based billing, seat-based pricing, a customer portal, SDKs, framework adapters, webhooks and an MCP server, and its benefits grant file downloads, license keys, Discord invites and private GitHub repository invites. Polar's code is open source on GitHub. Pocketsflow sells digital downloads, courses, coaching, subscriptions and software, with license keys, the pocketsflow npm SDK and 19 webhook events on every plan. Pocketsflow and Polar as merchants of record
Pocketsflow and Polar are both merchants of record. Each one resells your product to the buyer, adds the right sales tax or VAT at checkout, and files and pays it. Polar charges $15 per dispute and passes on its payout provider's fees: $2 per month with an active payout and 0.25% + $0.25 per payout, plus 0.25% to 1% for currency conversion. Polar pays out when you withdraw. Pocketsflow pays out daily, weekly, monthly or on demand, whichever schedule you pick. Read merchant of record explained for how that model works.
